Finally! We were all settled into our home. It was put back together and perfectly decorated. I even replaced most of the furniture in the rest of the house as well, all while staying on budget. And just as we got comfortable and used to “normalcy” again, we had a major realization – we can live anywhere. All we need is each other. We had become unattached to our things and got used to living in someone else’s home for the last year. We understood that things are just things.
“What would it be like to live outside of the city?”, we wondered. Chad can work from home for the most part, and I was working on a 2nd website to start my new design business (stay tuned). We don’t have kids, and Mabel is always up for a new adventure, so why not rent out our house fully furnished for 6 months to a year and find another place for us to explore?
Enter Serenbe. We had visited the community for our anniversary in March of 2021 and fell in love with its beauty and the peace and calm we felt when we were there. Chad started looking for available rentals, and that’s when the ball started rolling…
Within 6 weeks we had visited Serenbe again for our anniversary, signed a 6-month lease there, put our house on the rental market, looked at buying a townhome in Serenbe, decided to sell our home in Atlanta, put an offer on a place in Serenbe, and got an offer on our house in Atlanta. Whew!
It wasn’t an easy decision because I love our house in Atlanta so much. We bought it almost 17 years ago as an adorable one-story 2 bedroom/2 bath yellow house and turned it into the gorgeous 2 story 4 bedroom/4 bath crisp white house that it is today. I have been involved with the renovations and design of every inch of that home, so I feel satisfied that my work there is done. We have made amazing memories there, however, we’re ready to make some new ones. I’m excited to decorate a brand new (yet much smaller) home in Serenbe and I promise to document it all!
Will we get bored living outside the city? Maybe. Are we willing to find out? Absolutely! If it wasn’t for the trees falling, I don’t believe we would feel this way. But now we know that we can always move again. Things are just things. Life is an adventure, and I am happy to renovate and redecorate along the way!
