Finally. The year that was 2020/2021 has moved on, and we’re already one month into 2022! I hadn’t looked at my website since this summer, so as I just looked back, I am reminded of the excitement and optimism that I had when I started this blog. My intent was to write about my journey as I navigated the possibilities of my next career.
Throughout 2019 and the beginning of 2020, I had several opportunities – some worked out, some ran their course, and I was actually ghosted a few times! I had the wind taken out of my sails, but I remained optimistic, and was excited to learn new things. As I adjusted to life in the pandemic, I still had some opportunities, but the universe had different plans for me. When the trees hit our home, I was thrust into the role of insurance adjuster (dealing with a large insurance claim is seriously a full-time job). As we got ready to rebuild our home, I became a project manager as well. I made daily runs back and forth from our house and the rental house, with plenty of stops at the tile store, Home Depot, and Sherwin-Williams in between. But I was getting to use my love of design, which made things easier.
Among the many silver linings this catastrophic event presented, it helped me see that design is my passion. We hadn’t budgeted for a renovation, and while insurance covered most of it, we used this as an opportunity to make some other changes. So, I had to be creative in finding what I wanted without breaking the bank. I’m quite pleased with the way our home came together, and I want to help others find the look they want – the smart way – without blowing their budget. Smart design!
The insurance claim still isn’t officially closed, but there’s nothing left for me to do. The house is finished (minus a small punch-list), our furniture is back from storage, and I’ve replaced everything that was damaged. All the boxes are unpacked, and our home is back in order. My focus now is on my career. No more distractions. Here I go!
